Meet Melina, a Political Science major with a minor in Spanish from Fordham College at Rose Hill, Class of 2025. Throughout her time at Fordham, she has been an active member of the campus community, serving as Secretary of the Fordham Debate Society and contributing as both a writer and Events Coordinator for the Fordham Undergraduate Law Review. Currently, she works as a Paralegal Specialist at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn.
How did you find this opportunity? Is it related to your major?
Another paralegal from the office reached out to me! I’ve learned throughout my time there so far that my background in political science and sociology has really helped me.
What are/were you most nervous/excited about as you start(ed)?
I was nervous about how important and direct my responsibilities were going to be, but I was also excited to have such an important role in federal court investigations and proceedings.
What were your most valuable resources at Fordham?
The connections that I was able to foster with faculty and staff truly played an immeasurable role while I was at Fordham, and continue to do so as I navigate post-grad. Also, using Fordham’s RamConnect to reach out to alumni in related fields and jobs was so valuable!
Did you do internships during your time as an undergrad?
Yes! In the summer of 2024, I interned for Judge Warin in the Criminal Supreme Court in Kings County, and in my final spring semester, I was a criminal division intern for the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of New York.
What advice would you give others for the job search and application process?
Don’t be afraid to tap into your connections at Fordham, whether they’re professors or alumni; people want to help you and see you succeed!
In general, what are your future career goals?
My goal is to go to law school and eventually become an attorney in the public sector!
