Nibras AlJubair graduated from Fordham College Rose Hill in May, with a major in Computer Science. While at school, he was the Vice President of one of the biggest cultural clubs on campus, Fordham University South Asian Entity. Currently, he is a Data Solutions Analyst at iCapital in Stamford, Connecticut!
How did you find this opportunity? Is it related to your major?
I found this opportunity through linkedin. I was able to gain a referral from a Fordham Alumni who works at iCapital currently. It is semi related to my major computer science. It is more aligned with my experience as I interned at a Fintech company.
What are/were you most nervous/excited about as you start(ed)?
I was nervous about the training process of this role as I didn’t really know what to expect. But so far it has been satisfactory with adequate training provided.
What were your most valuable resources at Fordham?
I’ll say the career fairs were very valuable. Although my career didn’t stem from the job fair, I was able to pick up a couple of interviews from the companies attending and attained valuable interview experience. Getting an interview from a job fair is 10x more likely than an online application.
Did you do internships during your time as an undergrad?
Yes I did one internship at 3forge – a software company providing a seamless scalable data aggregation platform primarily for financial institutions. I was a Software Engineer Intern.
What advice would you give others for the job search and application process?
We hear the word “Networking” and get scared quite easily. But it doesn’t really have to be going to large events and having to talk to strangers for a job. My form of networking was simply scrolling down on a job listing, looking at the Fordham alumnus that worked there and cold messaging them on linkedin asking for a referral. I understand this is very time consuming but I can tell you it works. That’s exactly what I did and I advise you to do as such.
In general, what are your future career goals?
I understood quickly that I love to interact with clients and solve problems. Hence, data consulting is a position I am highly looking into and can be a possible future career path for me.
