What’s your best advice for graduating seniors who are seeking a job?
1. Polish Your Resume: Make sure your resume is tailored to each job you apply for. Highlight the skills and experiences that are most relevant to the specific role. It’s a good idea to have different versions of your resume ready, each customized to fit different industries or positions. This shows you’ve put thought into how your background aligns with the job and demonstrates your attention to detail.
2. Go Networking!: Take advantage of career fairs, workshops, and alumni events to meet professionals in your field. These are great opportunities to learn about job openings and make valuable connections. Don’t hesitate to reach out to professors, mentors, or family friends who can offer advice, share their insights, or even help you connect with potential employers. Your network can be an invaluable resource during your job search.
What’s your biggest red flag in an interview?
One of the biggest red flags in an interview is when a candidate doesn’t seem to know much about the company. If someone hasn’t taken the time to research the organization or the industry it’s in, it can come across as a lack of interest or preparation.
How can students stand out in the recruiting process?
Having experience in the same industry, whether through internships, part-time jobs, or volunteer work, can really help you stand out. Also, sending a quick, personalized follow-up email after your interview is key. It’s a simple way to show your appreciation for the opportunity and reinforce your interest in the role. Plus, it gives you a chance to highlight any key points you might have missed during the interview and leave a lasting, positive impression.
