Nicole Wehdeking is a recent graduate from the Gabelli School of Business, Class of 2025, where she majored in Finance. Originally from Colombia, she immersed herself in Fordham’s finance community as a Senior Analyst in SWS, Portfolio Manager for the SMIF Emerging Markets portfolio, and co-leader of the Private Equity Bootcamp. After interning with Goldman Sachs in the Financial Institutions Group, she accepted a full-time role as an Investment Banking Analyst in their New York office. She credits Fordham’s PPD office and SWS for helping her navigate the recruiting process and connect with mentors who shaped her career path.
How did you find this opportunity? Is it related to your major?
I found this opportunity through the SWS newsletter and Finance Scholars. As a finance major, a career in investment banking was something I was considering since I started studying at Fordham.
What are/were you most nervous/excited about as you start(ed)?
I’m most excited to continue learning from top talent at my bank on a professional and mentorship level. During my internship, I had the opportunity to connect and work with a lot of people from my team who had extensive work experience and advice to share, so I’m excited to go back and keep fostering these relationships.
What were your most valuable resources at Fordham?
My most valuable resources at Fordham were PPD and the mentorship and guidance provided in SWS. By meeting with PPD recurringly before and during my recruiting process, I was able to prepare for my interviews and receive feedback to become a competitive applicant. Through SWS, I was able to connect with many succesful women in the finance industry that took the time to share their experience in the recruiting process and their current roles.
Did you do internships during your time as an undergrad?
Yes, during my sophomore summer I interned at Jefferies where I rotated through their investment banking and sales & trading divisions, and during my junior summer I interned at Goldman Sachs in their financial institutions group (FIG) within their investment banking division.
What advice would you give others for the job search and application process?
I would advice others to take advantage of the resources that Fordham provides and their extensive network of alumni who are always open to chat with current students about their roles and experience.
In general, what are your future career goals?
I want to continue building a career in finance here in the United States. I want to continue catering the domestic market, but would also like to work with companies in Latin America and apply the knowledge I have gained to better serve these countries and their companies.
Optional: Fun fact or anything else you want to share!
I’m an international student who was born and raised in Colombia.
