How did you find this opportunity? Is it related to your major?
Through networking! Networking is the most important thing you can do in any industry, but especially in the sports industry. I saw the postings on TeamworkOnline which is an online job board for the sports industry, but networked with people in the organization on top of submitting my application. It is not related to my major, but I discovered this kind of work through past internship experiences and found that I was deeply drawn to the sports industry.
What are/were you most nervous/excited about as you start(ed)?
I have been most excited to see and learn more about the sports industry! I am definitely nervous about the
What were your most valuable resources at Fordham?
There were a few major resources for me! The first are the interview rooms in the career center, they are TOTALLY underrated as a space to do virtual interviews. Second are the more job centered clubs like the Business of Sports Society, which allowed me to network with Fordham specific alumni. And the third, was my time with Fordham Athletics Marketing. Working alongside such a talented and likeminded group of students is something I am so thankful for because it pushed me to be better and work harder in all aspects of my job search and school.
Did you do internships during your time as an undergrad?
Yes, I had a few different internships throughout my undergrad! I had a one day internship with the NY Giants during their Draft Day event, spent the summer after Junior Year with the Indiana Fever as their Fan Engagement Intern, and All of Senior Year I was a Business Season Student Associate at Madison Square Garden.
What advice would you give others for the job search and application process?
Do not be afraid to put yourself out there! Be confident in what you bring to the table as an applicant. It can be intimidating to throw your name in the ring, but you will never know if you don’t try. Keep a document of different job postings or places you want to work and CONSISTENTLY look on different job posting sites and those company websites. Dedicate a day of the week as your job application day. It makes a daunting process a bit more digestible.
In general, what are your future career goals?
– I hope to grow and develop further in the sports industry in guest services/community facing roles. This industry combines everything I enjoy from sports to working with people. This kind of industry can take you into different roles that you would never have predicted and I look forward to seeing where I end up.m
